Transformation

This story is about change and transformation, from child to adult for the protagonist; from human to bird, and then back to human form again for her brothers. The story is also about surviving and growing in hostile and isolating environments. The environment and characters transform along with the main character.

Moment of Discovery

Stars and california poppies, look similar enough to serve as a metaphor, right?

In this piece the story is beginning to be resolved, the cacti in the desert have started to bloom, and the family is reunited.

The Moon

In the original text, the moon "had a taste for human flesh" which is pretty scary, so naturally I had to leave the element of danger in the narrative structure.
